The Ashana Connection

I recently caught up with Ashana, a Kosmic music artist and we chatted for nearly an hour over the phone. From her inspirational space in Santa Fe, we touched on a number of topics ranging from having a spiritual practice as part of her music and vice versa, the ongoing quest to open up to deeper levels of all love and trust and refining her vocal skills based on the classically trained methods she had apprenticed to when she first started singing.

Her latest release, Beloved produced by Thomas Barquee is absolutely exquisite. While one might be tempted to simply drop it into the over-swelling kirtan bucket, it is not traditional kirtan by any stretch. This is deeply sacred music that is born out of her relationship to early music, madrigals and chant. While these elements can be referenced, by no means is this simply a new age version of Hildegard Von Bingen. These compositions are unique and Ashana’s voice is clear, angelic and deeply feminine, in the tradition of the great feminine mystery and the sweet, nurturing and loving manifestation of God, The Mother.

The podcast of our Interview is up on KosmicMusic Radio right now and see all her releases here. You can check out Ashana’s blog to catch up on dates for her upcoming tour.
