Music Goes Green
by Robert Phoenix
It’s been a while since I shipped some words over to Kosmic for this Music Blog, but that’s what happens when you decide to look at the election through starry eyes. My blog focused on the astrological connections between the candidates and the economy. There has never been more to write about from an astrological perspective, so I’ve just been using whatever spare time I can to to stay current. Now that the election has subsided, I can get back to a little music.
When I first started this, Chris (our Editor in Spirit) wanted me to do something on the hang drum. We had both experienced it together for the very first time in a cave concert up in the hills above Sausalito in Northern California.
The concerts are put on by The Green Music Network, guided by Alan Tower. He usually pairs up musicians that perform on tone/drone instruments like the hang drum, didge, and Tuvan throat singers. The cave itself is an old army tunnel (Hawk Hill) that was once part on an army installation in the hill. It’s now in the stewardship of the US Parks Service and Tower has managed to work with them 4-5 times a year for these unique concerts. But if you want to go, you have to buy your tickets in advance and dress in warm, as the coastal fog and rain can wrap around the cave like a cold, wet, blanket.
The Green Music Network also has classes, workshops and other performances (mostly kirtan) outside of their cave concerts. You can find out more about them and upcoming cave concerts at: greenmusicnetwork.org
