Relationship Web Highlights: Aphrodisiacs, Things to Remember for Love, Gene 334: The Love Gene

The Bonding Gene
Hey, this is interesting–researchers in Sweden claim to have found a link to certain genes in men in regards to them bonding well or not so well with their partners. They found that men carrying the gene that they believe results in less successful relationships were generally rated to have less satisfying relationships by women in unions with them than women married to men without the gene (the gene is called 334). Not so fast! Before you go making assumptions about men you know that you have pegged to possibly have this gene, the researchers come clean and admit there are multiple factors which can lead to relationships to not go so well. This is only the beginning by way of research into this gene. For the complete lowdown, check it out in world news at news.sbs.com.
50 Foods for Lovin’
I found this blog called Soul Mating that has lots of info in one place with cool long lists of things related to the topic of love-relationships in each post. This one got my attention: Forget Chocolate: Fifty Foods You Never Knew Were Aphrodisiacs by Christina Laun. Although the coverage includes fruits, veggies, herbs & spices, and more, I enjoyed reading about the following:
“Mulled Wine: Alcohol, …in moderation can be powerful as it lowers inhibitions [yes, we know this!] and in women raises the level of testosterone increasing sexual desire.”
Also included was this bit of history: “Many medieval and ancient cultures consumed a variety of red wine concoctions in order to boost their libidos.” Yes, I realize alcohol as an aphrodisiac is nothing new, nonetheless I found those facts about it very interesting. What are other possible items of interest on Ms. Laun’s list? Pine nuts, Saffron, Damiana, and—get this–Oatmeal! Consuming concentrated amounts of this grain has been found to increase testosterone levels in men and raise their sex drive! I would not have guessed. See it all at 10bestfreedatingservices.com.
Remember This
In Seven Simple Steps to Keep a Relationship Alive and Reunite those Love Feelings, Relationship Expert/Coach Athena Navarro gives top tips we could all use in the reminding department–right? Two items in her blog post I liked were
4. Gestures of Kindness
5. Rituals.
Under Gestures of Kindness, Navarro encourages us to do small things when it’s NOT birthday or Valentine’s Day, such as notes, voice mails, all those tender things you can do to let your Doll know you are lovingly thinking about her or him. As for Rituals, she stresses the importance of creating non-sexual rituals, things you can enjoy together, such as dates, at least once per week to keep your relationship healthy.
