Qi Gong for Business

Shifu YanLei, a disciple from the Shaolin Temple in India, says that many business people in China practice qi gong because it boosts energy, increases concentration, and gives you a “clean mind” which helps with decision making. That’s why he’s created this excellent video for business folks. YanLei is a warm and gentle teacher who inspires relaxation just from watching him. He offers moves and breathing techniques that can be done at the office or in any chair. He talks about negative qi gong at the office, such as cigarette smoke. He even offers a little history on the ancient art form. See the youtube video at youtube.com.

Deciphering Yoga-ese

Has your yoga teacher ever said something like, “breathe into the pose,” “ground your core,” “feel your pelvic floor,” or some other equally vague instruction? If you take enough classes, eventually you will hear something that you can’t quite get a grasp on. Maybe you’ll look around to see what others are doing, but most of these directives are done from within and you probably wouldn’t notice someone doing it. Well, blogger, Brook Hewes, brings light to some of the more common yoga teachings that fall just slightly out of the obvious through the wisdom of California yoga instructor, Barbra Brady, who helps you make sense of yoga-ese. Late Night Yoga

Are you a late night person who can’t conceive of getting up with the sun to do your sun salutations? I am definitely one of those people and I’ve noticed that yogis tend to be early risers. I love to go on yoga retreats but I’ll be darned if I have yet to make it to one of those 6 a.m. classes that others seem to have no problem getting to. A yoga studio in Manhattan—The Laughing Lotus—on 19th Street may just be starting a trend for late-night yogis with their 10pm to midnight class. Already, a bunch of other studios have followed suit. I hope it catches on everywhere. If you’re a night owl, try suggesting a later class at your favorite yoga studio, or if you’re a yoga teacher, consider catering to us late-nighters.
