Become Your Own Soul Mate
by Christopher Van Buren
When it really comes down to it, what we want to connect with, to be in love with, to love, honor, and cherish…is ourself. After all, is it not our own reflection that we are really attracted to in others? When we see qualities in others that inspire us and ignite our admiration and desire…do we not long for those qualities in ourselves for our own completion? It is always our own wholeness that we seek…even when we partner with others to share the path for a time. When we realize that we are our own soul mates, we can seek wholeness from within and take the burden off of others to complete us. In place of this, others become guides and mirrors to our own soul. We can see ourselves through their eyes and fall in love with ourselves again and again.
This is the partnership of the soul. This is how we can love and honor each other — by showing our lovers how we see them, by showing them how we see them as perfect and whole, so that they may see themselves more fully. Then, instead of being incomplete beings seeking others to complete us…we are complete beings radiating our own versions of the Truth we find in others. The mantra of the soul mate is “I’ll show you the perfection in you and you show me the perfection in me.”

Dear Christopher,
Very nice post. I specially liked the lines..”When we see qualities in others that inspire us and ignite our admiration and desireā¦do we not long for those qualities in ourselves for our own completion?”
I was reading a book by Dr. Deepak Chopra, he was saying the same thing. Whenever, we fnd someone attractive, it is because of our belief that they have some quality , that we don’t. So instead of getting that quality by associating with that person, we should try to grow that quality in us. Indeed, the world is our mirror.
