Return to Center

Thinking about your new year’s resolutions? Maybe you’re fed up with resolutions or reluctant to even make one for fear of how long you might be inclined to keep it. What often makes resolutions so hard to follow is that we strive for too radical a change, when what’s needed is something more subtle and gentle…a simple return to your center to ponder your next move.

Returning to the center is a way of restoring balance for a time. It may be for only a moment, when you meditate or practice yoga. You may be able to return to center by taking a long hike in the mountains or a long jog along the beach. For some, just walking the dog can take them a few steps closer to center. For those of us focused on the day-to-day necessities of work, family, errands…finding the center is often an exercise in paying attention to the areas that are out of balance: self, silence, nature, sleep, play.

Whatever takes you off center, let 2008 be a time of balancing the wheel of your life. Use about the 12 houses of astrology, the 12 personalities of the enneagram, or any other set of archetypes or aspects to helps you identify the areas if life that may need balancing. Maybe you’d like to start the new year with a complete astrology chart or in-depth tarot reading. Use the tools that are available to you and come to Kosmic Life for ideas and encouragement.

The center is a great place to be. But it’s not likely that you’ll be there all the time. The idea is not to identify the center, but to remain on the path. Like a surfer who is constantly adjusting his balance to find the center of gravity…the object is not to find the center, but to have a great ride.

Here’s to making 2008 the ride of a lifetime!
